According to Apple’s own statistics, I’m in the minority. About 25% of users still use Leopard, 5% still use tiger and less then 1% use anything earlier. Every mac I own is considered “vintage and obsolete” but who cares? Most people don’t need the new Macbook Pro, as in college students and your average user. Why does anyone need an 80% faster core processor and a new video card (made for gaming) in order to write some papers, send e-mail or check facebook. It has no optical drive, so no fresh reinstalls, no gaming ( which makes the new video card a strange idea) and a thunderbolt port, which is generally used for working with servers, or displays, but your average person doesn’t really own their own server, and nothing really works on thunderbolt yet.
You can’t type faster then ANY computer, and on my Macbook Office 2004, safari, and older versions of the sims work just fine. If it did all that so well 5 years ago when it was brand new, then why can’t it still do that today? In all likelihood I’ll probably use my “vintage macbook” and until the cold, dead end in which I can’t fix my own computer anymore. At that point, I might get a new or used mac, or even a PC, but who really knows? What is clear, is that my Macbook is that last of a dying breed.
